I have read posts on this topic yet I am unable to find anything on the topic concrete. How do I setup a monitor for the SWAP Space on my linux machine. I cannot follow these NET-SNMP Wiki's on this topic. Very confusing to me.
In my experience if you have a very basic (no special configuration) configuration of net-snmp then Orion will automatically find the SWAP space on those devices.
This is mostly the case however the trap aspects were not so clear nor was the ability to threshold only on this particular item.
With net-snmp you can run the configuration utility by typing "snmpconf". This will provide a menu driven interface that will build your configuration file. Once you have the configuration file you can just copy it into the proper location and restart SNMP service for the changes to take effect. You can use this menu driven interface to configure a trap destination.
Once your agent on the hosts is configured you can alert on specific traps from within Orion. Go open the console tool for managing traps.
If you want to alert on SWAP space you can do that using the Advanced Alert Manager which is also a console tool on your primary Orion system.
