Orion 7 upgrade & maps
dhutchings
Hi there - I've recently upgraded from 6.4 to 7, and everything works fine with the exception of maps. Is there any way to convert my old maps? I spent a fair amount of time creating the ones I've got and I'm not really looking forward to redoing them all again for v7.
Thanks,
Darren

There is a map conversion utility built into Map-maker.

Is there a way to import maps from lets say Openview or any other apps. We have Visionelle, Visio, and HP NNM maps. We have a couple other maps available, but the above mentioned are the most complete maps.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks,

About the only way to do it, is to save your other maps as .gif files, then use them as backgrounds in Mapmaker. Visio allows you to export a drawing directly as a .GIF file.
For the other programs, you may have to take a screen shot and them convert the .bmp to a .GIF file after cropping it to size.
Create a new map and select this .gif file as the background.
You can then drag the nodes and interfaces onto the appropriate spot on this background.
The problem with this is if your network architecture changes you have to start all over again as the background cannot be easily edited to reflect these changes.
If you use the new drawing features of Mapmaker, you can edit the map directly with
new/changed nodes and links without having to redraw and repopulate the whole map all over again.

Great, thanks a lot, ng. Should have opened my eyes a wee bit more before posting.
