Potential client - reporting question

We are a Managed Services Provider looking for a tool to compete with OpManager and What's Up Professional. A couple of questions:

Can reporting be broken out for each of our customers or would we need to create a custom SQL report?

Can reports be auto generated each month?

Does this do disk failure monitoring?

Hi Troy, I think you will find Orion a great product that is quite simple to set up and achieve superior results. The answer to all your questions is Yes, no, yes, yes.

You create a custom property in the database for each of your customers & base your reports on this property. The report writer wizard creates the SQL query for you automatically, and then you can post this report on the Web page. When viewing the web report with IE & Office XP or 2003 you can just right click on the report and select save to Excel.
Reports can be e-mailed out using Report Scheduler (Uses MS Task Scheduler engine).
Orion polls disk volume status every 5 minutes by default.

I am in the process of diving into the product on my test server. It looks very good so far and pretty much sets itself up.

I have the disk volume stats working, but they will not show a physical harddrive failure in a RAID configuration. Is there a way to do so?

NO!

Until SW includes support for custom MIBs in the product you will not be able to see anything more than the generic info provided by the default interface and host resources mibs. That does not include individual drives in a RAID mirror.

So I ask you to join me and countless other Orion paying customers in campaigning the fine development team at SW to add this feature for us.

You can monitor the RAID status, but you'll need to set up a custom poller (Universal Device Poller). It varies for different vendors. For example, for Dell, you will need to have OpenManage on the server, then you can set up a custom poller to collect array state (which I think is 1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10893.1.20.130.4.1.4).

I watch for disk failures by sending snmp traps back to the orion server and forwarding those with email.
