Hi
I always faced error while updating any of the Solarwinds performance monitor or its service packs. When ever i install the application it gives me error in setup that SNMPv7.dll was not registered. I even tried doing it manually but it failed.
To over come this issue i had to get the Server rebuilt and than install the application on a clean server.
My company policies do have some Security settings so i was in an impression that there was some of the security setting that didn't allowed this installation so when i was upating to V9 i asked my DC team to provide me a clean server with only OS and its patches and no security setting. The server had Windows 2003 Enterprise edition with SP2 and patches with SQL standard edition. I checked the same myself before starting the application installation. But i faced the same error again.
This time there were no security settings on the server and it was a clean server. I ignored this error once and continued with the configuration Wizard. everything seemed fine and i was able to complete everything. Than we found that after completing the first polling cycle the poller didnot initiated the second polling cycle and the data was not getting polled even after waiting for 10 mins. No default polling settings were changed. the poller was able to poll once polling was intitated manually.
On discussing the same with my OS team and testing the setup on a test server we suspected that it was not any security setting but some MS operating system patch that could be causing the issue. We installed the application on a machine with Windows 2003 enterprise with SP2 and no patches . Everyting went fine this time.
Please help me in identifying which patch are causing this issue if they are as i can't ask for removing all the patches.
Also would be intresting to know what is "SNMPv7.dll" used for ?? This is not a standard dll file as i was not able to search anything regarding this file on Google.
Thanks for the support in advance
Regards
Rajiv
