I need to monitor URL response time.

Hi Support,

I would like to monitor URL traceroute/Respose time hop by hop through Orion.

Can i monitor this or do i need to buy some other module for this?

I would like to set threshold for this also?

Follow up question: How about external Websites where we cannot add the server where the website was hosted?

You can still add the node as an External node, you add it with the IP but it isn't monitored at all. However, for a URL monitor it technically doesn't matter what node it is assigned to because the URL is what is being checked, having it assigned to a node in this case is just for the sake of association.

You can do URL monitoring with APM.

I need to monitor the response time of the URLs, we have APM v3.x, what's the best way to approach it?

Say, try to hit the url and wait 10 seconds, then 20 seconds with the second try, then wait 30 seconds with the last attempt. If the last attempt fails, send the alert notification.

I'm not Denny but I can answer this readily enough.

For a step-by-step on how to create an APM application to monitor URLs, you can read and follow the steps in Monitoring Internal and External Web Site Performance in the APM Evaluation Guide.

The shortest application polling frequency in Orion APM is 60 seconds, so once per minute is the fastest that Orion APM is going to be able to check your URLs. If the web site doesn't respond, the application goes to Down status, and you can set up an advanced alert that can go off and notify people when it gets triggered.

If you only want the alert to be triggered if the web site has been down for 3 minutes, you can set that in the advanced alert.

My developer wants to track the urls to make sure that we are getting 2- 7 seconds response time and send an alert when it's taking 20 seconds to get to the url...Guess APM won't be able to do that.?
