Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Direct input into Orion Database
gbrance
One of the things that we were looking at is being able to give users the ability to add Nodes into Orion without letting them have access to the completed database. One the things that I was thinking about was adding data directly into the database.
We would have our developer team build a web portal that users would input information like Node Name, IP, SNMP string, custom properties. The web applet would then create a new row in the Node table of the database with the information. Has anybody tried this before?

Greg,
This has been discussed in these forums, and the conclusion was that this is not possible, as there are other fields that get dynamically created (NodeID#, InterfaceID#, etc.) in the DB. Also, you would still have to discover the resources manually if you wanted to monitor the CPU, Memory, Interfaces, etc. It would be very difficult to add this dynamic info to the DB directly.

Thanks for the input. That is what I thought.
We are looking for a way to add some other departments equipment to the monitored equipment by Orion. However we would like to push the day to day administrative functions of managing there equipment in the Orion Database to these departments. However we want to be able to restrict them so they only have access to mess with the equipment that they have added to the database. I thought using direct SQL input we could get more granular in what access is given. Has anybody figured out a way to get more granular in the Orion permissions for removing and subtracting Nodes?
