Working with SQL 2008

I've got a VM 2008 built for the frontend and a 2008 server for SQL.

I'm trying to run the NPM config tool but when it tries to connect to the SQL server it errors, see below.

In previous version of SQL its just gone straight through to the next screen.

Unfortunately we don't have a DBA team so I manage all the Orion SQL DBs myself and my SQL knowledge is lacking at best.

Are there any quirks I need to be aware of with SQL 2008 that need to be configured before I can get NPM talking to the DB?

I know Windows Server 2008 has Windows Firewall Installed and running by default. Have you turned it off on both machines?
