Copying NPM Config

I'm just starting to build our NPM install on new hardware and rather than migrate our existing 9.0 install I'm doing it all from scratch.

What I'm going to have is two SLX NPM servers at different site but what I would ideally like to be able to do is configure the basics of one ie polling times, stats collection etc and just copy the config files to the second server rather than having to enter them all again.

Is this possible and if so which files do I need to copy?

I thought most, if not all of these settings were stored in the database. Assuming, you're adding all of your nodes to one polling engine first and then migrating half of them to the other, it seems your biggest challenge would be the migration itself or am I misunderstanding something?

You've sort of got the idea of what I want to do and its probably my fault as it doesn't come over well in the question anyway, I'll have two SLX installs on different sites monitoring different devices but I want the base config of both to be identical and the only way I can see to do that is to copy one config to the other server change the name etc and then add devices.

What I need to know is, is it just a case of copying the DB or are there other files as well I need to copy like the website etc?

The following documentation may be helpful:

"Creating a Web Console Configuration Backup" in the Orion NPM Administrator Guide.
The sections "Copying Maps", "Copying Custom Reports", and "Updating Report Schemas" from the Orion NPM Migration technical reference.
The steps for creating and restoring database backups in the Moving Your Orion NPM Database technical reference.

I think you will definitely want to backup and restore your website config. Creating and restoring a backup of your database would ensure that you have all settings stored in your database, but you will have all the old devices that you will need to remove. You will also want to copy over all reports from one NPM server to the other.

Thanks Pacetti, there will be no need to remove any devices as these will be totally new DB's.
