SNMP v3 Lenovo Xclarity

Hello:

I am running into some challenges with the getting SNMPv3 setup from my Xclarity manager to Solarwinds.

At the moment I have Xclarity setup to send SNMP traps to SW. In the setup of Xclarity it is asking for the Authentication and Privacy credentials. I do not know what those are on the SW server. Is there a default snmpv3 account on SW itself that Xclarity can send when updating traps? Since it doesn't appear possible for SW to query Xclarity or the Flex Chassis that Xclarity is monitoring directly I have to rely on Xclarity sending its traps to SW. I just can't see how or where the credentials for snmp v3 are to allow Xclarity to connect.

Versions are below if that helps and any other info that is needed I can try and supply.

In NPM, edit the node(s) with credentials of your choosing. Invent some SNMPv3 credentials if you currently have none. Enter those same credentials on your Xclarity devices.

If you are sending traps as a workaround to not knowing how to query from SolarWinds, you could SNMPwalk or consult vendor documentation to see what is visible via SNMP monitoring. Note that you will need working credentials to SNMPwalk.

I can't get the nodes added to NPM. The way the Flex Chassis is setup now is Xclarity is monitoring everything chassis related and Lenovo support has told me that SW can't connect to the chassis to SNMP query the individual nodes of the chassis (switches, computer nodes, etc). From what I being told the only way is to send traps from the Xclarity software. Since I can't add a node to SW I can't edit the credentials. I can setup SNMP forwarding to SW but it is asking for the privacy and authentication passwords which I don't have on SW as far as I know. I am not sure what to Xclarity to use to pass the SNMP to SW. I have a screen shot of Xclarity if that helps at all.

Not sure if this applies here, but... I have had some devices that couldn't be added (credentials would seem to fail, yet gave results if I used them in an SNMPwalk). I had success in adding nodes as ICMP only and then editing the database relevant fields. Not sure but I think you can edit an ICMP node (via web) with credentials that don't work and save credentials that NPM says don't work. What I've seen is that custom pollers to specific MIBs indeed did work and showed results in reports, despite the apparent mismatch of credentials that you would suspect is happening due to inability to add device. I believe this is related to the system MIB and whether NPM detects it. Perhaps someone could more eloquently state the system MIB and how it comes into play. Going from my memory of the devices I fought this way (IronPort if I'm not mistaken).
