Certain nodes not included in stats...
duncan_922
Hello there...
Does anybody know if there's a way to have a certain group of nodes not included in the collection of statistics, or at least not count towards the full network availability stats?
The reason for this is that we were presented with a situation where we needed to know when we lost power at a site and were on backup battery. Before we wouldn't find out anything was wrong until the battery ran out too. So we though of connecting the cameras at the sites (web cams so they can be pinged) to the power source where the battery is connected and then we added the cameras in Orion as ICMP nodes so that, when we loose the camera, an alert would go out and we'd know the site is running on battery. We can quickly deploy to fix the problem before there's really any downtime of the network.
Problem is that when this happens, the outtage for the camera affects my network-wide stats when there was really no outtage.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Duncan

Instead of "network wide" availability, you could create a view or report showing availability of all devices minus the cameras via custom properties.
Or better yet, if your UPS's can send a syslog message to your Orion server, you can forward the message via email, or something of that nature. We have ours configured in this manner and it works very well.

Hi Duncan,
I suggest using Report writer to report on Network availability, & just exclude the nodes which "don't count" from the report using the filter function.
