Polling engine problem
Cygnuz
hi,
I need to monitor resource at a remote site, so i installe a new polling engine, call this B, without web server and without db. The primary polling engine (with db and web server), call this A, can talk with B trought a VPN. When I logon on A and I open "Orion System Manager" I can see the 2 polling engine, both with green light, but when I try to connect to polling engine B (from the system manager in A) it tell me that the host doesn't exist. The same happen when I try to connect from b to A. Using a sniffer it seem that during this process A try to authenticate to B trought a RPC service and this fail. Do I have to create a special user Account or something else?
Thanks

The answer would be yes. The RPC is trying to use your userid and password that you logged in with on A to authenticate on B that you are allowed to connect to the service.
Try creating an identical userid on B with the same password as the user account on A you are logged in with.

Thanks for your answer,
I already have it, the accounts username are "Administator" and passwords are the same, maybe the problem is due to OS type? win 2000 on A and win xp on B.
How can I solve this?

After some other investigation i guess the problem can be windows xp sp2, is it possible?

Still I can't solve the problems, i've notice the following message in event registry with event id 10009:
"DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer B using any of the
configured protocols"
any help would be appreciate!
thank

Can someone tell me at least which ports are used during this authentication process, so I can sniff just for this traffic?

still I can't solve the problem!
I don't understand why if I wan to use sistem manager from A to use polling engine on B I have to connect to B using DCOM RPM while the database is installed on A.
Anyway I think this mean that SW need some windows service active that are not mentioned on the tutorial!!
