I will be installing NPM in the near future. What issue is there with installing NPM on the same server as SQL?
Also, are there any issues using IE7 for the web console?
Thanks
There may be performance issues with NPM and SQL on the same server if your network has 2,000 or more elements.
The Administrator Guide, in the Server Sizing section (p. 10), advises:
"In some situations, it may be advantageous to install Orion Network Performance Monitor and SQL Server on different servers. If you experience performance problems or you plan to monitor a very large network, you should consider this option. Specifically, when monitoring 2000 elements or more, SolarWinds recommends installing SQL Server on a separate server. This scenario offers several performance advantages, as the Orion Network Performance Monitor server does not have to perform any SQL Server processing, and it does not have to share resources with SQL Server."
If you have the opportunity I would definately advise placing them on different servers (depending on how many nodes), we have them on the same with around 1000 nodes and are anticipating the day very soon where we split them to different servers. It gets sluggish, simply too much for one host.
Also, no there will be no problems using IE7 for the web console
