Upgrading and New IP for Orion server

people, i need some advice here.. currently i have my Orion v8.5.1 SP3 and sql server on the same server and im dying!!! i plan to move both applications off and onto seperate servers.. i need to move the SQL to a different server and the orion application onto a brand new server.. i got the database migration notes from the ever friendly solarwinds staff : http://www.solarwinds.com/support/Orion/docs/OrionServerMigration.pdf this is my thing though.. i am going to have the new application server setup with two IPs.. one nic with the old ip and one with the new ip and slowly reconfigure all my nodes the new IPs (we are re-IPing all our devices).. iv come up with procedure of doing this and let me know if i am missing something or not doing it right..

1.) Back up solarwinds database.
2.) stop all solarwinds services
3.) move database to new server
4.) install orion v9 on new server (at this point do i install the modules as well)
5.) follow instructions for database migration
6.) run configuration manager..
7.) then install modules

does that sound right??

I think the upgrade procedure states you can only import a v8.5.1 DB into v8.5.1 of Orion and then upgrade to v9SP2. But you better check with Solarwinds to be sure. Good luck. We were facing an upgrade from 7.X but we just installed 9SP1 on our new server and added our nodes back in.

i guess you lost all your info as well ehh... started again with a clean state.. i dont mind the losing most of the stats but need to keep circuit info..

If you are assigning a new IP to your Orion server, I imagine you will have to do some config changes on your switches and routers. if your using Cisco Switches and RTRs, you probably have something like this in their configs:

snmp-server host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx community string. Where xxx.xxx.xxx is Orions current IP.

Simple change would do it.
And if you have Cirrus ( SW! ) you can use that to push out the new config line.

no snmp-server host old.orion.ip. community string

snmp-server host new.orion.ip comm string.
