Need help setting up SNMPv3 traps.

Hello True believers,

I am trying to set up SNMPv3 traps in the trap viewer and having a wonderful time coming up with a 1000 ways to not get it set correctly. Where are you able to specify that it is SNMPv3?

Ok now how can I get it to send email alerts if a port is closed by Cisco?

I have a customer that wants to set up a trap for SNMPv3 devices. So when the Cisco device closes a port it will send and email out letting them know. He is using the Trap Viewer to set this up. How do you designate in the trap viewer that it is in fact an SNMPv3 trap? Or does it automatically set it at an SNMPv3 trap as the device itself is configured for SNMPv3? If you could maybe give me a step by step to help the customer that would be great.

You have to set it up on the node I believe for the SNMP type for a device. However, you have to have the device itself set up correctly too, using the same auth type for traps. Notes from the NPM Admin guide say:

Note: When using SNMPv3 for polling a device and receiving traps from it, confirm that the same authentication type (auth, noauth, or priv) is configured for both polling and traps.
