Notification FEATURE REQUEST
dimonet
If this exists somewhere and I just haven't found it I would love to get comments on it. Thanks!
It would be nice to be able to specify different users to notify for different nodes / devices / etc. As it stands right now if a node or interface goes down you can only specify the same set of contacts for any node.
It has been our experience that it would be a helpful feature to be able to specify different users to be notified for different devices. For example in our large enterprise we have hundreds of servers. Within the hundreds of servers 10 of them may have one primary contact and another 10 may have another primary contact. There is no way to break up the notification in the current configuration. Having the ability to specify notification parameters for each device would be very helpful. It would also be very helpful to be able to specify notification groups.
Best Regards,
Dimo

My suggestion for a solution to this is if Solarwinds allows the SysContact field to be used as Email recipient on alerts.
This way one would only need to insert Syscontact records into all the devices and have one set of alerts that covers all units, but the alert gets sent to the right person without a bunch of diffrent alerts mapping out diffrent units.

The syscontact idea would work if you could use a macro for the
users e-mail address. You'd have to test this yourself.
OR
As Kaj mentioned, you can create a separate alert for each user
or group of users you want to notify, and then select the group
of devices that this alert pertains to.
The Alerts field does get quite large and difficult to manage.
I have requested that Report Writer have the ability to show
all alerts that are setup, for making this easier to manage.
This may show up in the next version.
