Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Monitoring Multiple units in a 3Com stack of switc
tpelley
Im trying to get Orion NPM to monitor a stack of 3Com Siperstack 3 switch 4400's. The one and only thing I am interested in knowing is the availability status of each unit in the stack so I can create an alert to cover the event of a stack or one of the units in a stack going down.
I know that the data is collectable from the switches and can readily be viewed using a MIB browswer. the OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.43.10.27.1.1.1.7 will return the operational status of each of the units in a stack of switches. Is there any way to get Orion to monitor this?

Sorry Terry, but that's no doable with Orion at this time.
You'll have to wait for Orion Version 8.
Just do a search for Version 8 for more details on this:

We've got 4400's here and the only way I've managed to get each switch in a stack to monitor individually is to give each switch it's own IP address then add each switch as an individual in NPM, not ideal but it the only way I've found to be able to monitor multiple switches in a 3COM stack.
tpelley, do you have any issues with your 3COM devices were from time to time they will report over 100% utilisation on interfaces in some instances these will go up to 1000% plus?
Thanks

We have hundreds of 3Com switches deployed in over 150 sites across the city and I con honestly say that this is a problem that we have never seen. On the whole, the 3Com switches we have have proven to be very reliable and very good value for the dollar.
