Newbie questions about monitoring

Heya,

Ive implemented a whole solarwinds installation for my customer, and now im fine-tuning it to fit our needs.

However when Im tinkering with alerts, say for example that I want a node in a Group called servers to monitor the status on a node for UP or DOWN, then i want an action to trigger.

However i only get group-specific choices now in the drop-down menus. All I want to do is to for Servers then alert on node level. Is this possible? Or am I misunderstanding how the whole flow works?
Theses are my options..:

I cannot be the only one can I?

You may want to look at using Custom Properties to do the logical grouping here.

In my experience when it comes to alerting, Custom Properties are easier to use and a little more flexible.

If you want to create an individual node alert but there's an specific group of nodes, you will need to create a custom property as advised by jvb. Then from the alert creation, choose Node Custom Properties and find your created custom property. Let me know if you need other assistance

Thanks jvb and Manilyn Ramos, the custom property was the way to go. Im just getting warmed up when it comes to building alerts, but i think its starting to come together now. Its a bit wierd to think of tables and what data are in them to be able to create the alarm.
