Groups and/or alert parenting
FormerMember
I would really like to see alert parenting, but I'd settle for device grouping. Let me explain...
Parenting: For each device, add the option to choose one or more other devices as a parent device. Then, in the alert configuration give an option to only trigger an alert for a device if it has at least one of its parents up.
Groups: I'd like the ability create device groups for use in alerting. Groups should be non-exclusive (i.e. a device could be in any number of groups). For example, I'd like to create both location and device type groups. A switch at a remote site might in a group for that site and a group for switches. I would want to be able to configure alerts (and alert suppressions) based on group memberships.
Possible for version 8? Is there an ETA and/or changelog for the next update?

You can kinda do this now with alert supression, but it's a horridly manual process that can grow beyond manageability if your network is of any respectable size.

I guess I should have added... is there a current way to do conditional paging without having a whole bunch of supressions? How are others handling this?

while we are on the subject....
Currently if I want to need setup a UP/DOWN alert for our email team, sqlserver team, network team, unix team, etc... I have to create a different alert for each team and select just their servers... with 1000's of servers this is impossible to maintain, and each time I add a server, I have to update the alerts
A QUICK SOLUTION FOR V7.5! ALLOW MACRO's in the TO field
If the TO field in the Alert Email Address allowed you to use a MACRO, then you could add a custom property "AlertEmail" and tag each node/interface with the correct contact. If the macro is blank, no email goes out.
This would allow you to create just ONE UP/DOWN alerts that covers all the groups. And you would not have to mess with the HUGE list of servers in the Alert window.
Simple change, HUGE benifit!
