Yay....
As has been said, you don't need to run it every time if you are upgrading multiple modules.
Upgrades Un-Mystified - SolarWinds Lab Special Edition - YouTube
I feel this... when you're running it for the 10th time during an upgrade.
Check out this thread. Configuration Wizard - run time, upgrades
I run it 10 times when only upgrading one module...
And because a Solarwinds developer decided that making database changes in the additional polling engine wizard was a good idea you can't run it on multiple servers simultaneously.
Just bring a lunch and enjoy
Richard, this statement is no small thing as some users have numerous polling engines. I have actually performed simultaneous installs/upgrades on multiple APEs. I did not see any errors. Have you had a different experience? I would think that an adequately resourced SQL back end can handle the strain. No?
We have UDT and a very large environment. what happens is one wizard drops an index, and another wizard creates the same index. This creates deadlock in the database, no matter how fast your DB is.
My old environment had 31 servers running different pieces/parts of Solarwinds. The most recent upgrades were taking 40+ minutes per server to complete so I had to break it into different systems and different days. The company only allowed changes on Mon-Thursday so it took me 2 weeks to complete the upgrade.
Thanks for this!
For me it was dinner and my colleague in the UK it was a pillow haha.
