Some bugs, some wishes and some questions

Ok, I have used Orion for a while now, and these are things that are at the top of my mind right now:

Bug: when adding Custom HTML or Text to Node Details, it shows the same info for every node.
Bug: When adding Syslog summary to Interface Details, the Syslog Summary for the entire system is what is shown.
Bug: In Map Maker, when saving map names with Norwegian letters, the map will not display in Orion.
Bug: In Map Maker, when dragging icons to make them appear bigger, they do not appear bigger in Orion web interface.

Wanted: When filtering Events, there should be a search field to filter it even more. For example, if several interfaces on a node creates Events, you can use the search field to show just one of the interfaces. (Just like in Syslog messages really)
Wanted: A new version of Map Maker, the program makes me cry every time I enter it
Wanted: Drag and drop of Nodes in the Orion web interface.

Question: Is it possible to list all the ip adresses a Node has? We have a lot of L3 switches / routers with more than one ip address, but only the one entered into System Manager is displayed in Orion by default.

Question: Mapview.asp. The ony way to edit this is to do it manually?

Bug: when adding Custom HTML or Text to Node Details, it shows the same info for every node.

This is not a bug, this is by design. This is controlled by the "Views" section of the admin page and can be customized per device type but not per individual node. If you have node specific information you wish to use variables are acceptable code in the Custom Text/HTML resource.

Bug: When adding Syslog summary to Interface Details, the Syslog Summary for the entire system is what is shown.

Again, this is not a bug since in most cases all syslog messages for a device are sent via one IP address/interface.

This sounds like a legitimate bug. I would open up a support ticket if I were you so this gets addressed in a future build.

Orion feature requests should be posted here. http://thwack.com/forums/57.aspx but out of general curiosity what do you mean by "Drag and drop of Nods in the Orion web interface?" Can you explain?

This is only possible using the custom MIB poller

What are you trying to do that requires you to manually edit mapview.asp?

Ok, it seems that I have misunderstood. Why is it possible to add to nodes then? There really *should* be a notes field to every node, IMO. Even to every Interface.

Ok. Again, why is it possible to add to Interface Details then. Since Events are possible to display on the Interface level, why not Syslog messages too?. Seems logic to me.

Example: If you have grouped your Nodes by custom fields, and you add new nodes, they are placed outside those groups. Therefore it would be nice to just drag them into the right place on the web page.

What are you trying to do that requires you to manually edit mapview.asp?

I looked into this briefly, and I guess this requires support for polling MIB tables, which Orion don't have yet.

I went the manual route and created a custom interface property called 'if_IP'.
I added the IP for all interfaces on our Backbone routers & display this property on the interface details page like this;

Of course this does not scale well at all :-p

Also there are two View Resources that can be added to the Node Details view to accomodate the display of custom information. One is the 'User Defined Properties For a Node' Under the Node Detail Reports listing. The other is 'Edit Custom Node Property' under the Miscellaneous listing of Resources when adding Resources to the Node Details View. Both of these resources assume that you have defined some sorrt of Custom Property for Nodes.
