Min/Max Util Numbers on bps graph...where do they come from?

In our Solarwinds environment we poll statistical data every 10 minutes.  I understand that Solarwinds collects the bits in and out on an interface then calculates the time since last poll (in my case 10 minutes) to set the average bps during that time slot.  On the bps graph it also has the min/max during that polling interval shown as a bar.  How is this determined by Solarwinds?  Do network devices provide this info somewhere or is it a "best guess" by Solarwinds?

I believe that you will only see min/max when your graph display interval is less than your polling interval (10 minutes in your case).  So when your looking at a bps graph with the display interval set to 30 minutes you have three polling intervals rolled up so they will compute the avg and min/max for that time period.  Change that display interval to 10 minutes and the min/max bars will disapear from the graph as there is only one data point to graph per display interval.
