SQL Query in v8 Alerting Engine

Does anyone know if it is possible to pass variables such as NodeID to a SQL query in the v8 alerting engine? I understand that the syntax for SQL queries is ${SQL: <Query>} but I haven't been able to figure out how to embed another variable for a WHERE clause.
