snmp traps on Orion NPM web page
lohelle
it would be very nice to see snmåp traps on Orion NPM webpage. Is this possible to do? If yes, How?
Out Avaya switches does not have syslog functionality. When traffic is blocked by certain ACL rules the L3 switches and routers sends snmp traps with rule number, source, destination, time etc.. The Solarwinds snmp trap receiver is the best I've seen yet when it comes to decoding these SNMP traps, but I want to be able to watch these from the Orion web page.

Hello lohelle,
No. The current version of Orion does not do SNMP traps. Although this has been requested before it does not seem to be at the top of the list. It looks like the kids at SW will be creating an all new alerting engine and then providing the holy grail, custom mib support.
If you really want to see this feature added to the product bug SW about it until they finally give in.
Be fantastic.

lohelle:
I am currently using Kiwi for collecting SNMP traps and send them to a SQL Server database. What I ended up doing was writing some custom ASP pages that connect to the SQL database for viewing the SNMP trap information. I then added a new menu item on the Orion web page called 'SNMP Traps'. This opens a new web page to my custom ASP pages. Although, technically it is not integrated with Orion, the support staff does not have to exit Orion to view the SNMP trap information. It is accessible from the Orion web app. This has been a very good solution for us.
Good luck!

That sounds like a great solution and I'm curious if you have any plans on releasing those ASP scripts to the public?
Thanks!

jfarney,
Can you post the custom ASP pages you built? Or can you email them to me?

Orion customers with maintenance can download the Beta Trap Receiver which is available in the Additional Components section of the Customer Area. The Beta Trap Receiver includes alerting and will include the ability to see the traps via the web once the Beta is available for release. All Orion maintenance customers will receive the Trap Receiver for free once it is available for release.
