Finding unmanaged/unmanageable switches

Hello all

Not sure if this fits best in the NPM or the UDT section (i have both products).

I am trying to find a way to track down unmanaged switches in my environment, so i can force the company to replace them! Problem is a lot of the sites are remote, and these potential switches could be in roof void's etc.

Is there a query anyone has access to that would check my ports, and report back any ports with multiple Mac's on that isnt a trunk port?

Unless anyone already knows a more efficient way to find them?

I believe UDT can show which switchports have multiple MACs associated with it.  Maybe someone could back me up with the exact process. This wouldnt be exact as you would probably overlook switches that were connected that had no hosts connected to them.  Some unmanaged switches do support SNMP and probably have a default public community and could do a probe through NPM that way as well. It would also be prudent to enable a bpdu and/or root guard where applicable.  This would 1. Prevent a loop from an unmanaged/rogue switch 2. Prevent an unmanaged/rogue switch becoming the root of the spanning tree.  You could also leverage LEM or possibly even the syslog monitoring function in NPM to fire an alert when bpdu/root guard blocks a port.
