Interface down vs. unplugged

If I modify the "list resources" for a particular node to only monitor interfaces that are "up", will NPM change the status of the down interface to up IF it picks up traffic on the "down" interface?

I want to edit out some of these interfaces in our views because they still seem to be picking up discards, so If i can edit them out, that would be great.  However, I still want them to pop up if an actual device begins transmitting on that port.

On List Resources page you can only select interfaces that you want to monitor (there is no special logic). But you can see the Down interfaces as Unplugged (to suppress alerts on Down interfaces). This can be changed on Interface Edit page - "Display interfaces as unplugged rather than down".
