Monitoring Power Suppies and Fan trays

I want to monitor the status of power supplies and fan trays in Cisco 4500 and 6500 series. Ideally I would like to be notified if a power supply or fan tray stops working. I'm wondering if this can be done effectively in Orion and if so what are steps involved.

I appreciate any assistance.

You will need to create a UnDP to pull that data, see here for one someone else created similar to what you are asking for -

You should then be able to setup an alert off of this data

The above link is a UnDP for a temp table.

If you just want the power supply status then this is the one we use

Fan status table is

We also use this UnDP for the temp state table . Rather than the actual value, it returns six possible outcomes for each temperature probe on the device (i.e. normal, warning, critical, shutdown, notPresent and notFunctioning). Each device determines it's temp state rather than us setting a threshold for each different device type (easy to alert on).

Thanks for your responses. I guess I don't quite understand how it works. I had already assigned the pollers to the nodes when I added them. What I don't understand is how to monitor them in Orion. Where does the poller relay that information in Orion?

You need to assign them to a webpage (Right click on the poller and select Web Display). I assign the table under the node view.

Just one final quick question. I haven't been able to test this but if you have the pollers assigned to a node (let's use the Cisco power supply poller for example). If one of the power supplies on a node goes down, does Orion automatically recognize that as a problem and post it on the home page under "Nodes with Problems"? That's how I would like for it to work if possible. Thanks!

I'm not sure it would show up as a "Node with Problems" but you can make advanced alert rules to monitor and email based on the UDP data.
