Server sizing

Currently my Orion SL2000 is running on a dual proc/quad core 2.7Ghz server with 20GB of RAM. I have two separate SL2000 installations and am going to be combining them into a single SLX instance. I see that SLX is recommending 3.0 Ghz processor but to get a server that size with dual procs/quad core I am looking at around $8K and I would need to buy two - one for primary and one for the fail over engine. Are my current specs large enough to support SLX running NPM, NTA, IPSLA, NCM 500? I have heard that 10.3 is going to jump up the RAM requirements and the newer server I have spec'd out would only come with 8GB of RAM so I would take a RAM hit as well. I do have a separate SQL server that is handling the current load fine with RAMDISK. I will just need to add disk space to support more elements on a single server.

rating servers by ghz is no longer valid, I wish companies would update their requirements. I would that server should be good, but what model of processor is it? If it's one of the new Sandy Bridges, then for sure! The Nehalem should be good, a Core2 might be, but a Pentium 4 might not work out. I'd say any recent server should work well.

The current server is an HP DL365 G5 and I would like to keep it in service as the new server would take me down to 1 proc and only 8 Gb of RAM, but I am not familiar enough with the server side to know if the newer proc on a DL360G7 would still be better.

Current Server

HP DL365G5 Dual Proc/Quad core 2.7Ghz with 20 GB RAM

Running SL2000 at 95% license limit

Will be upgrading to SLX and adding another 1500 elements to this server.

Proposed new server

HP DL360G7 Single Proc/Quad Core 3.06Ghz with 8GB RAM

Do you think the newwer server will give me more power where Orion needs it? Or is the proc and RAM hit going to be too much and I should just stick with what I have?
