universal device poller status page

has anyone done this or know if it can be done.

 

i have a page that we monitor various items.  one being VIPs on an F5.  unfortunately you cannot use ICMP to determine if the VIP is up or down because it will always respond to ICMP.  i thought maybe i can use the UDP to poll the status of a vip (got this done) and have the value returned mark an object on a map red or green like a device.  anyone have any ideas if this could be done?  or even an snmp trap sent to Orion to mark a device red if it goes down.

 

we need something that is dummy proof for our ops.

I know this is an old post, but I need help with the exact question that the previous person asked.

Specifically, how do I use the return value of a Universal Poller to show up on a network map? 

We use F5 devices as well so I want a red light / green light status of a virtual server (a web application) on an F5 Big-IP.   Using the Universal Device Poller, I am able to poll the status of the virtual server.  How do I put the response of the UnDP on a network map in Atlas? 

Maybe I need to ask the question another way.  How do I make the response value from the UnDP force a group object to be green when 1 is returned and red when 0 is returned?  (That way I can just put the group object on the network atlas map).

Thoughts or ideas?
