How to Configure SNMP in Red Hat Linux?

Dear All,
Please help me out on my query!!!!
I have installed Orion Network Performance Monitor on Windows2000 server, configured the SNMP service on all other windows based server & given the IP address of Orion Network performance server on Trap destination option in SNMP service. It is working fine I can see the perfomance of the servers etc. I would like to configured SNMP service on Red hat linux. Can anybody know the setting of SNMP in Linux & how to configure it?

Hello Nandkumar,

Do a search in the forum for linux SNMP. You will get back a list of items detailing the configuration of SNMP on a linux system in order to be monitored by Orion.

Sometimes K.I.S.S. is the best way (edit your snmpd.conf file - not sure where it is on your server but try /etc/snmp/snmd.conf)

this one use v2c readonly to any thing that can get to the server over UDP 161 (you need to protect it with iptables or some type of firewall):

rocommunity public

sysLocation 1234 Main St, Hometown, CA 12345

sysContact MIS Department - (555) 555-5555

To protect a little bit more, you can add an IP after the community string
