Hi,
In NPM module, how to monitor the HP 3 Par storage.
Please share basic configuration of HP3 par and NPM module
Storage Resource Monitor (SRM) would be what you would want.
In all honestly it would not be recommended to monitor HP 3PAR with NPM. It would only be through SNMP using 100% custom Universal Device Pollers (UnDP). It would be very manual and not worth the effort nor would be give the level of detail that SRM provides.
At my last job we monitored the management IP of the HP 3PAR. That gave us basic node up/down, some CPU, memory stats, but that was about it. SRM would give much more. We didn't have that at the last job though.
Trying to monitor a 3par device here and I am only seeing the NICs with no CPU or Memory info. Can you share any info on what you had to do in order to see this other info?
What we were monitoring was the Management Ethernet port on the 3-Pars. We had those connected for the admins to remote manage them, but I also used them to get NPM stats. I recall helping the 3-Par admins set up SNMP in the systems, but I don't recall anything else special.
We recently purchased SRM and it had exactly what we needed for monitoring the 3Par, Nimble, and EMC as well. We added all three and it was a breeze. SRM is a must have IMO for SAN monitoring. NPM is only going to give you very basic info, none of which is really SAN cent-rick. Sort of what John said
That was a little over 3 years ago now, and I am at a different job. The 3-PAR admins were mostly concerned about up/down notifications. I don't recall what else we got on them back then. You could try doing an SNMP walk or look through 3-PAR documents for SNMP OIDs to built up some UNDP polling.
