Orion srevice accounts

Okay, I trying to find out, for the third time, what priviliges the accounts which the Orion services are running under need to have in order to run consistently. The problem I am having is that these services will run perfectly for a couple of weeks and then will fail to start one morning. I have been told by SW helpdesk that these accounts need to have local admin rights as well as SQL read/write permission. I have done all of this and am still having these services fail to start occasionally.

Has anyone else had this problem!?! Would definately appreciate that help as this is the third time I have sought help on this.

Is it just the NetPerfMon service or all of the SolarWinds services?

Do you mean they fail to start or they stop for no apparent reason? If the NetPerfMon service is failing..how many items are you polling, element, volumes, etc.?

If you open the Orion System Manager and go to Setting then to the Polling tab what are you values set at?

Also, if you display your polling engine status on your page what does it say?

It was the polling service that stops mostly. I have had some problems with kthe other services as well though this one seems to be the most consistent.

Yes, they stop for no apparent reason.

Currently at 2438 elements being polled.

Polling statistics are defaults I believe:
Interval for Nodes - 120 sec
Interval for Interfaces - 120 sec
Interval for Volumes - 120 sec
Rediscover - 30 minutes

status is currently active though when the service stops then it goes inactive

It sounds like your account settings are correct. My services are running under 'LocalSystem'.

For what it's worth, I installed Orion via my Domain Admin account and that's where I run it from. I'm not sure if that'll help you though.

Our installation was also done using a domain admin but I am still getting this sporatic behavior.

what gets logged in the Windows Event Log when the services stop?

All that is logged in the event viewer is a SolarWinds.net message of 'Polling service has stopped'

Where does your SQL server reside? What version of SQL? How much disc space on the drive and what is the size of your database?

SQL server resides on same box as monitoring service.

Thank you all for your help. In looking at the database it appears I was out of room. I read in another post that this caused similar problems. I have increased my allocated database space and I will keep watching. Thanks for the help! Will update if this is the fix.

Just food for thought...I believe the SQL Desktop Engine's size limit is 2Gb. If you upgrade to 2005 I believe it's 4 but don't quote me on that last part.
