result of telnet as a trigger

As I can see, the only oppotrunity to use telnet is to run a basic telnet connection from the node details or, maybe, initiate putty to start.

Is there any chance to make a trigger over the result of certain telnet command?

Like "initiate "telnet x.x.x.x yyy, if the result is zzzz zzzz zzzz, it's ok, if no, change the status of node to warning (for example)".

The node is external, in a cloud, so I don't have an actual access to it.

Can it be done?

Script to log in and check mail. Status 200 ok back and you might assume it's up.

I realize your question is in the NPM category but my approach would use Server and Application Monitor module:

quick google search brings up several powershell port check monitors - add one of these into a SAM powershell template or even just use a SAM port monitor to check tcp port 23

If you are able to run commands, then you should look at Linux/Unix Script Monitors of SAM (Server & Application Monitor)

On the node I can't do anything, so it should be a telnet script or something like that. The task in common is to check the availability of a mail server without sending a letter and gaining an access, so the only option appears to be telnet(

As I understand, Linux/Unix script monitor cannot serve in this case.

the check of ports, even 25, 110, 143 would not be enough(

from the docs - "In order to use PowerShell with SAM you must have PowerShell 2.0 installed on the SAM and target servers... On the target server, open a command prompt as an Administrator and enter the following..."

I can't do this, I don't have access on the target server.
