Custom View error: "view limitation that is too restrictive"

I am building a custom view, which I had working at one time.  Now it is reporting an error when I try to preview it:

Could not locate a network device for view TestView. You may have created a view limitation that is too restrictive.

I previously had some interfaces defined in it (which worked) and deleted them, intending to switch to a different set of interfaces to display.  I now have the Custom HTML in the resources columns and am getting this error.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look?

Starting over with a new view with a new name worked.  Whenever I try something with the existing view, even if I change its name, fails with this error.
