Monitoring Route Packets Take

Question

Is there anyway of monitoring and either visually displaying (atlas) or alerting when a route taken to get somewhere changes. Ill quickly explain whats happened and maybe someone has a better solution.

We have a primary (20Mb) and a secondary (2Mb) router for our internet access. The primary line stopped working, although the router is still up and the interfaces are still up. The HSRP failed over to the backup router. Obviously the internet slowed down considerably and the failover wasnt picked up for a few days.

Any idea's how best to handle this with Orion NPM (Im new to it and only just getting my round it now)

Wouldn't this only work if the router in the HSRP group only had one path to it?  HSRP only works if the adjacent router in the HSRP group doesn't see the other one.  You can have a path go down and the two routers still see each other and HSRP never get's invoked.  Right?

yes you can do that too

just discover your virtual ip's as other nodes into Orion and put them on the map like this - this is where i do clustered servers with virtual ips, just like routers

if there's a failure the map icon (cloud) will show it as red

Cheers for the excellent response, that looks pretty close to exactly what im after.

Would it also be possible to visualise the route on an atlas map, so show the backup route as a "down" node for instance until it fails over?
