Internet Link Alert

We have configured link alert on NPM then it generate the link alert when interface is down but problem is occurs when services on Internet is down NPM does not generate the alert we know that FastEthernet is always up due to Modem but on back end Modem fiber is down or there is no Internet service can any one tell the solution regarding above problem.

So to summarise:

You have a switch connected to a Modem, where the modem is the device providing the Internet connectivity. I am presuming you do not have the ability to configure SNMP on the modem to allow you to monitor the Internet interface status directly and therefore you are monitoring the uplink on your switch.

If this is correct, then I suggest you configure an ICMP only device in Orion, which is the next hop or gateway address from your Internet connection. To find this either look in the settings of the modem or perform a trace route. Then if this device stops responding to pings, it would suggest that you have lost Internet connectivity.
