It would be really nice to be able to pull the serial numbers of lightweight access points from NPM or NCM. The controllers keep that information, so there's probably some way to get it through the Cisco LWAPP MIB.
Fair enough request, I will get this filed into the system
You can already do that today with the Universal Device Poller. Since Vendors Vary the MIB and OIDs for the Serial Numbers, you will need to check the vendor for the MIB/OID.
I know I can get the SN for an individual, SNMP-enabled node with a UnDP; I already do that for all my Cisco IOS devices.
The wireless LAN controllers are a bit of a different animal. Each WLC controls up to several hundred access points. Since NPM already automatically reads the names and IP addresses of all these access points from each controller and puts them in a nice table, it doesn't seem like an unreasonable request to have it read other key inventory data about the access points, such as serial number, location, etc.
Hi,
I agree with jswan, UnDP is good, however its not as visually good as the obvious inbuilt resources, and it is only associated to an object.
I would go to extend the wireless tab to be able to treat an SSID as an object and do reports on this object.
FOr instance if we run 3 wireless networks it would be great to have a report and a chart/graph that plots the number of associated users to a SSID(Enterprise Wide) over time. In its current for there is very little information within the wireless tab that can give you trending data for the wireless infrastructure as a whole.
