Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
Network Performance Monitor
gonzo
Hi, I am fairly new to Solarwinds, I have found a great tool called "Network Performance Monitor". I monitors our firewalls interfaces, and I run the realtime gauges too. These are the 2 questions I have:
1.) How can I be alerted if the bandwidth reaches a certain level in the gauges?
2.) Should the Network Performance Monitor loose the statistics if someone closes the program down? I have left the monitor running for days, someone closed it down, and when I went back in it now only shows stats just from the point I start it again - so todays only.
Hope you can help
Andy

gonzo,
You must be using the Engineer's Edition of Network Performance Monitor. The Engineer's Edition will only collect data while the program is running. The Orion version installs as a service and continues to collect data even when the program is closed.
You can configure bandwidth and traffic Alerts from Network Performance Monitor. Select Alerts->Configure Alerts from the top menu in Network Performance Monitor. Then check "High Transmit Percent Utilization" and "Edit Alert". From here you can set the alert thresholds and configure actions (Send E-mail, SNMP Traps, SysLog, Text-To-Speech, Net Messsage, etc) to be performed when the alert is triggered.
You can also build your own set of Alerts using any monitored statistic.
