What We're Working on for NTM (Updated May 23rd, 2015)

There is a lot more NTM could do and that I want it to do. If we go and build those things we have to raise the price though. I don't want to raise the price. There are already options for people that want to do very careful, very manual map creation at a cost of free or effectively free. There are also options for people that want very advanced automated map creation at a premium price, something like 10x to 30x more expensive than NTM. I believe NTM is unique in offering a mostly automated solution at a super affordable price and I believe that's the best fit for most of our customers.

We will continue to build features as we see the need, but I want to set correct expectations that we do not expect frequent major updates. We will continue to provide 24/7 support, hot fixes, and so on as we have always done for NTM.

All the issues with this product that are posted on the forums, and ALL you can come up with is adding serial numbers to a report? Seriously?

Better processing and association of Windows systems to physical ports on switches. whether as a VM or a physical machine. you would think a mapping tool would be able to map the layer 2 relationships of devices on a LAN but it could not do this. This is the main reason we did not buy the product.

WOW! What a comprehensive and aggressive product road map. I can't believe how leading edge the NTM product is. How could any competitor ever expect to compete. I just have to ask. Looking at this being the road map page of Network Topology Mapper and the most current entry being March 30, 2015 and today being the 28th of August when should we expect the next major release, or minor, or mini, or micro, or maybe even macro release? For a company so bent on pushing their wares as top notch, touting all that is great, with price points that tip the scale.

I can tell you that I am impressed with sales. If the Solarwinds NTM product performance matched a marginal percentage of the abilities of the sales team tasked with promoting, defending, and selling the product. Wow, what a product we the end users would have.

I do have to ask one serious question. Why are we the end users of NTM repeatedly prompted to fill-out NTM feature survey's if their content is simply going to be ignored. Do not waste our time providing you with feel good info that you have no intent on using.

The reason for getting involved with the NTM product was its free predecessor LANsurveyor Express. The FREE product properly identifies devices because of its support of the NetBEUI protocol. I was real impressed, after forking over the dough for NTM, with the scan results. When I asked support about this they informed me that the product didn't support the protocol. The survey results showed this being a top request. Just what? It is still not included. How do you, the end users requesting this feature feel now knowing that it was an intricate part of NTM's predecessor LANsurveyor Express? The development time to incorporate this feature into NTM should be manageable even for the one person product team assigned to the NTM project. I don't want to hear about how secure, or not, a protocol is. It should be our option during the pre-scan selection process to determine and check the protocols we want to use.

So the bottom line is. You've got a product with a compassionate and committed user base. Now allocate the resources necessary to provide the Network Topology Mapper product with the glory it deserves. Once this is done I'm positive its ranking will sky rocket.

The product roadmap page on Thwack for this product and indeed all of our products is not intended to list all of our ideas or even all of our roadmap. It's just the list we're ready to share. I'm afraid with NTM, we're not ready to share more than we have above. Sorry for the wait!

On the positive side, our last release was large and was less than a year ago, so that should give you an indication of our trajectory.

I purchased this product to help our organization enhance the current maps, since the product recognizes routers, switches etc. and builds the map somewhat visually appealing without much work. Expect when you import them into Network Atlas it all goes to hell.. Why make a product that does not integrate directly into Orion. I should be able to have the same visual interactive map rather than the Green Dots. I'm not impressed with NTM or the RoadMap..

it would not surprise me at all that there is another roadmap that we may not be privy to that does just this - I have also asked the question about NTM and network atlas.. should be the SAME product, if you ask me.

NO updates, not new "features" no new roadmap..

the last of interest in the product from Solarwinds is so disappointing. Not real sure why I keep bothering to renew my support.

time to hunt for another vendor.

Running a new scan today on one subnet. its been 5 hours, and its still going... ITS SO SLOW.. there needs to be some major work done on this product.. We need QUICK scanning, optional HOP or NO HOPS AT ALL scanning.

I started a scan with 0 hops on my core loopback management network on Thursday.... mistake. TODAY it was still scanning - with over 45k "requests made" and still counting..

I agree. I been waiting and waiting and waiting for an update to this product. VLT, VPC support, spanning tree topology, etc.

I owe you folks an update here. As has been painfully obvious, the roadmap for NTM does not include a lot. It's tiny. Infinitesimal?

At this point the "What We're Working On" page creates more false expectations than it actually fulfills so it's adding to the problem. I will be removing the sticky from this page and removing other links to the page to accurately reflect that we don't have a list of stuff we're working on delivering soonish.

I hope that while this information does not match your ideal choice, it does provide clarity about what we're doing with NTM.

The product owes us an update as we paid maintenance on it. Just saying...I won't be putting this on the list next year for renewal without. We pay you yearly to keep it up. At least make it functional with your current products.

I am with you on this. Don’t hold your breath. I have been on this band wagon before and don’t plan to ride it again. They are always prompt in sending renewal notices. They also are quick to let you know all of what you will miss out on if you don’t continue with the service. As far as I’m concerned this is a complete misrepresentation of the product and those of us who purchased in good faith. They have not maintained their side of the agreement. They have not made a change to this product for well over a year if not two. You’ll notice in the blog that they come straight out and say that they will not be making any changes/updates to this product unless necessary because of security or functionality issues. They state that it does what it does and that making any changes/upgrades to the product would force them to raise the price and no one wants that. How about using the monies you’ve thieved from us to maintain the product. What goes around comes around it’s just a matter of time.
