Polling change for bandwidth utilization

Currently we use Cybergauge (old software) which is like mrtg to poll our devices. Cybergauge is set up to poll every 15 seconds and write an image every 1 minute. Management wants Orion set up close to this. The only thing that I can find for polling that would seem like it would have anything to do with snmp is the polling statistic that's currently set at 9 minutes. Is this the correct polling interval that I need to change if I'm just wanting to poll a device's interface for bandwidth?

It's been my experience that you can see the effects of transatory peaks in WAN traffic using 5 minute polling. WAN circuits will normally peak and recover very quickly, so catching every short peak adds little value in understanding the overall health of the WAN service. You may be able to demonstrate this by polling one WAN circuit every minute and another similar one every 5 minutes and showing the results. Also note that there is a Poll Now ability on every interface view so you can poll on demand when you see a possible issue.

Yes, that is the setting but polling interfaces every 15 seconds is excessive. The industry standards are to poll every 5 to 15 minutes. What does management want to achieve by polling so often? Does this interval apply to LAN and WAN interfaces?

I think they just want up-to-date information. This would only apply to WAN interfaces.
