NetPath is awesome! Except for linux support

Is there any way to get an agent installed on an Ubuntu server? I've found little to no documentation on this, and it seems like a huge problem for any enterprise environment running linux machines.

It did appear there was an option to install a linux agent via Admin -> Manage Agents -> Agents, but even though my server is listed as "Agent is running" Connection Status: "Connected", it never completes a poll. I even removed the entire iptables firewall from the server for testing purposes. No luck.

Anyone have a howto guide on getting this to work?

The agent for Linux is currently only for monitoring performance data of that node. The agent does not support a NetPath probe, that is a current feature request.

First, you need to be on either NPM 12.0.1 or SAM 6.3.

I just upgraded my soalrwinds deployment the other day and this is what I had to do.

1. Deploy the agent and make sure it shows connected.

2. Then i had to edit the Node Properties and switch the polling method to agent.

3. Then List Resources on the node and make sure everything was checked that I wanted to monitor.

4. This step isn't required, i'm just impatient. On the Node Details page i clicked 'Poll Now' and 'Rediscover.' Give it some time and then it should recognize it as Linux with the right distro.

I got our linux box setup as an agent, configured as noted here. Once I tried to create a netpath operation, I had to also create a probe on the linux box. After this was done, I saw the new netpath operation greyed out, waiting for data. After about 10 minutes I refreshed my page, and found the operation was now gone.

I tried to recreate the operation, and found my probe was now gone as well. Still seems extremely buggy. Anyone have a solution for the disappearing operation/probe problem, or is this a bug to be fixed in a later release?

The PM for SAM was actually at the last SolarWinds meetup at Ignite this past month and I asked about Linux support for doing a NetPath probe. As @Chad.Every mentioned, it's not supported right now with the Linux agent. It sounds like they coded it in such a way that the Windows agent is the only way it works right now. Kinda sad

Would be awesome if when you flipped from SNMP up to Agent it ticked as much monitoring as possible.

Chances are if there are interfaces/disks/applications available then I want to monitor them!
