Advanced alert function....?

Has anyone developed a method to include a tracert in an alert message when a device goes down?

I am trying to see if this is possible in Orion 8.51.... when a device goes down I want to kick off an alert that would execute an external program that will grab the down device's IP and then do a tracert and then email that as part of the alert message.

Is this doable?

Unfortunately, I don't think this is possible. I don't think you can attach anything to e-mail alerts unless I'm missing something.

might take some testing, but could you use two External commands.

First one to build a text file (containing the Traceroute) and then next to use something like SENDSMTP to email that text file.

SendSMTP to=person@place.com [message="text" | file="filespec"] [options]

before calling SENDSMTP, have that first External command write output from Tracert to a "text" file. something like tracert ${IP} > filename.txt

then email that file. that's just some food for thoughts on this. if i can get some extra time this week, i'll try to test it out.
