10.4.1 Custom Property

Question

I am REALLY unhappy with the fact Solarwinds took away the old Custom Property editor and pushed it to the Web.  I used this feature a lot and was able to make mass changes very simply.  Now you have to go through the hassle of exporting, changing and importing IF you can even get the export to work correctly.

This is a hugh step backwards.

My point is this:

I have 16 Custom Properties that I could launch the CPE utility, copy, edit, and delete items very quickly.  Now I have to export to Excel, sort them, copy and modify the spreadsheet and then import.  I bet the old way is about have the time and effort.

Using RDP to run these tools isn’t a big thing plus it adds a layer of security.

I just think the new Web method just takes too many steps and too long compared to the utility.

Having both methods could have proven useful, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd much rather have the Custom Property Editor in the web console. I think it comes down to accessibility vs. user preference and accessibility affects all users. However, I would be interested to know it the implementation of the web based CPE made it unrealistic to maintain a server side application as well. I suppose it may be the simple fact that any updates to the web based CPE would have to be replicated in the application, which means the app would have to be constantly updated as well.
