solarwinds remote polling engine

Has anyone attempted or running this scenario?

Site 1 - with Orion NPM
Site 2 - remote office

Connection between the two sites is over the internet.

I want to deploy some remote polling engine at Site 2? The remote polling engine will then collect the data from all of the devices at the site. The data will be then send back to the Orion NPM for analyze and reporting purposes.

Can this be done without installing a second Orion NPM at site 2?

A key thing to note - the communication between the polling engine server and the SQL database is using latency sensitive protocols (SQL) and therefore it is essential to ensure you have LAN quality communication in place between them. This topology will not work well if you have regular latency spikes.

So let me get this straight...you want to deploy a remote polling engine without installing a remote polling engine? The answer is no you cannot deploy a remote polling engine without installing a remote polling engine.

What you are asking for is a remote polling engine which does exactly what you are desiring.

I am very new to Solarwinds, but I think this would work. Depending on the size of deployment and cost to the WAN connection, you could do this. More than likely not recommended for a medium to larger deployment from what I understand. You just need a secure connection from Site 2 to Site 1. This could be easily setup from a networking perspective. I guess it all depends on how complex and size of your environment.

You could deploy an APE at Site 2 that is the remote polling engine for the NPM at Site 1. However, as Dobbs said above, you will need to ensure the latency and connectivity between sites will support it.

We are relocating our data center from Central CA to Central WA. Our connection between the two are dual 100gig redundant and we were expecting around 20ms roundtrip. We recently brought this online and will be migrating SAN hardware shortly and see about 23 ms as an average. We are going to deploy a remote poller in that data center to monitor all its nodes, but are going to keep the app/sql/main poller in the infrastructure footprint that must remain local to the site.

It all came down to accurate reporting. If there is a huge +/- in your node reporting, it kind of kills its value.

I did not want to install APE. I Want to install an application in other Nodes That gather information when link was disconnected

What ever you explain the above problem. presently we are using my environment. Please find the below details

A Domain- we are using the solarwinds monitoring tool

B Domain - we are using the Another Monitoring tool.

Both are different domains and different networks.

we have installed in Solarwinds APE in B -DOMAIN. with help of network team we are opening all ports and communication also Main poller server(A daomain) and APE (B domain) like that both servers are working communicating.

recently we migrated in DB also.

Everything is working perfectly.
