"Retain syslog messages for how many days?"

I am trying to get the syslog service(s) that come with Orion SLX Version 7.8.92 to honor the setting to only retain syslog messages in the database for 8 days, but it seems to lie to me and grow to terabytes (we log at debug level). I want the information, but not longer than 8 days. Any help?
