NPM 10.3 New Graphs

Hello,

I'm just gauging peoples feedback on the new graphs and if they have found how to do the following -

1) Resize a graph like in the old graphs

2) Specify a "Custom" date/time range like in the old graphs

3) Set the graphs so they dont use US date of MM/DD/YYYY and actually accept the setting when typed in?

4) APM/Virtualization graphs are still the old ones and dont have any alternatives

This is just after 5mins looking at them, nodoubt I'll find more bugs/limitations.

Anyone any views so far?

I like them. Easier to use. I like the histogram look of the last 'x' number of days along the bottom.

Please add more. I'd like to see them for other charts (I chart the number of SSL VPN users for instance - be nice to have the same for something like that).

I like the look of the new graphs, but the usability needs a bit of work. I like to copy and paste CPU usage graphs into emails for developers, and with the new style graph you don't have the option to right-click and 'copy'. Unless I'm missing something, of course. I'd like to see them add an export to clipboard or something similar.

I agree, I like the look of them, they dont seem to waste as much space on the page as the old ones. Personally I want everything as compact as possible so I dont have to scroll up and down every page. But I only think they will come close when the features from the old ones are included into the new ones, like anything in IT you cant give someone a facility/service upgrade it and take many of them away and expect it to get adopted.

Not idea with the report saving as I do this too but I guess you could screenshot it then resize?

The new charts should mostly be considered as a Customer Technology Preview. We wanted to expose a few charts now so we could collect feedback form users before migrating all of the remaining charts. Please keep the feedback coming and let us know if there is anything specific we can help with in the mean time.

I was shown a nice trick this morning, if you click on the Chart Title to open it in a new window you can see a Solarwinds logo at the bottom. Press Shift and Click the logo to enlarge the Chart to full screen.

That's awesome! Are these types of tricks in the Admin guide anywhere? I suppose if they are I better start reading through the documentation

BTW, that trick works from the Node view page as well, without having to click on the Chart title first.

I'm having trouble with IE8 not always displaying the chart

Firefox appears to work fine.

We only run XP, so can't go to IE9

Not seen that problem in any XP/IE8 here yet, though I do get a message about javascript timeouts if there are a lot of graphs on the page. Support confirmed this is because of the way IE renders the javascript and suggested using Google Chrome or Firefox.

How about a option for displaying bps in the small pup-up/tracer windows instead of procent utilization?

I have not found much to like in the new 10.3 charts in their current state. I hope SolarWinds is going to put some of the functionality/color of the previous charts back in. If these charts are additional charts and SolarWinds is not going to delete the existing charts that is fine. If they plan to replace them with these new charts I would say they have a long way to go to fix these to the level of the ones they would replace.

To me the new 10.3 charts lack color, lack drill down of any value and don't show the information very well. The 10.2 and prior charts are much better in providing the information in one quick look or via an extremely functional drill down setup. The previous charts would let you drill down and setup the custom time line in any way you want to look at the data. I don't see any Excel files support on the new 10.3 chart limited drill down page. That was an excellent feature of the existing 10.2 charts along with the color scheme and capability to setup the graph page time line quickly.

The new 10.3 charts are all a washed out color of blue. The 10.3 charts lack the red/green up/down that the prior charts have. It is hard to distinguish the different shades of blue in 10.3. Example - Network packet loss a dark blue and response time a lighter blue in 10.3 chart. It was so much easier to see in 10.2 green/red colors. 10.3 charts would probably look OK on a black and white TV screen of the 1960’s.

On the new 10.3 charts with sliding time bars you are limited to what a regular user can see/do. Since only a user account with CHANGE VIEWS has the EDIT button, all the charts are locked in one view time line. You can only slide the timeline to what the default setup is locked to unless you have the EDIT button.

All I have to say is keep the 10.3 SolarWinds DEV chart people away from the outstanding 10.2 NTA colors and charts.

Good point, I hadnt noticed the Export to Excel was missing, something we use quite a bit too. But I agree the NTA charts are excellent and if the functionality/colours could be combined with the new ones Solarwinds would be onto a winner!

+1 on the resizing. I love the shift click for full screen but I like to be able to export the graphs to be used elsewhere.
