Do SNMP and WMI poll differently?

This chart tracks Average CPU utilization of 3 servers. Polling was initially using WMI however at 3pm I changed Orange Server to SNMP. I followed suit with Blue and Green shortly before 6 and the results are concerning to me. Nothing else on these servers changed, what would cause the polling to become more regular? Which polling method can I trust?

‌what I did in a similar experiment was to apply a SAM WMI process monitor against winmgmt service and an snmp process monitor against the snmp process. That allowed me to see the amount of CPU monitoring was contributing to the overall CPU and memory load.

In my case it was always 0. How about yours?

or if you don't have SAM then use task manager or better yet perf mon viewer.

I know SNMP and WMI look at the stats slightly different. WMI take more resources to poll, but includes more datapoints, SNMP takes less resources both on the polling server and client side. So if you are looking for quick response times, and clear data I go for SNMP. If you need some details not offered by SNMP for some reason, you may consider WMI.
