Do you use big screen monitors?

I supervise a group of guys that take first calls. We have big screen monitors in our area for all of our network monitoring. Does anyone have any ideas or other things on the web that may be of interest? We're looking to be more proactive in our monitoring.

We will be working on the same thing once our office moves, but I've been working on a few dashboards to show a basic overview to display information. I'm a part of the network team and we only want to show other employees basic information such as UP/Down that is it. I would definitely include a map that shows the status of your offices or datacenters, include primary mpls circuits, internet circuits, etc etc. Nodes with problems research box and any active alerts. Just some ideas

Any chance you could upload a picture? Without sensitive material that is.

I'll try and gets some pics uploaded soon. We have geographic maps with node markers for each of our monitored circuits. Green up, red down, etc.

rileymat Have you considered a few NOC views for pages that need it? That's usually my first suggestion, as well as a few good network atlas pages can go a long way.

You can put absolutely *Anything* you monitor into a group - be it a folder, a server, a switch, an interface, etc - and aggregate all of that into an up/down status instead of watching too many things at the same time. This can be extremely beneficial for putting together a network atlas map of what your datacenter/NOC wants. This would let you organize things the way you guys know of them as being important.

Also you could look at view limitations - while the wording is indeed "limitations" it works more like a smart filter - you could take a summary page and apply the view limitations to that page and have all sorts of useful information drilled down without having to do other funky filters. Ex: view limitation for a page is (the group mentioned above). Then you put a node status tree on that page, and it'll only show the nodes that apply to your view limitation. ETC.

Definitely there are several Thwack entries that display nice NOC views, and show how to create them. I've read Thwack stories that describe NOCs and Help Desk areas using large screens to display NPM information, maps that change colors in real time to reflect status, etc.

We also have a custom map template that pulls the down nodes and list them on the right side of the Maps that Rileymat is taking about.
