A buddy of mine at a small business with a correspondingly small network and budget asked me if Orion NPM will run on a Windows 7 machine.
What is the official answer?
For the Service Manager not showing the Services, please See the Following KB:
Why am I not seeing any SolarWinds- or Orion-related services listed in the Orion Service Manager?
The issue basically is that you have UAC Turned on, when you turn Off UAC, you will have access to the Services.
Evaluations are supported on 7, but not in production.
Well, I installed Orion 9.5.1 on a VMWare server and all seems to be well so far, but I did notice the following with the Orion Services Manager. Is this a concern or anything that can be repaired?
I dont think 9.5.1 even supports Win2008 R2, so I would guess that you would need at least Orion v10 for Win7.
Supported are only Windows Servers (as listed in the requirements)
also on Windows 7?
Use the following procedure to disable UAC.
To perform the following procedure, you must be able to log on with or provide the credentials of a member of the local Administrators group.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, click User Accounts.
In the User Accounts window, click User Accounts.
In the User Accounts tasks window, click Turn User Account Control on or off.
If UAC is currently configured in Admin Approval Mode, the User Account Control message appears. Click Continue.
Clear the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box, and then click OK.
Click Restart Now to apply the change right away, or click Restart Later and close the User Accounts tasks window.
