Top 10 Errors and Discards Today

Does anyone know of a issue regarding "receive errors" and certain devices? We have a few devices that show outrageously high receive errors in Orion, yet show nothing on the specific interface when we log into the actual device. We have seen this with a few Brocade switches we have and a Cisco 3750 stack.

We are running NPM 10.6

we see the same thing from our 3750s, even when not in a stack. These are all Cisco C3750Gs, running 12.2.53 SE2, When I run the cli "show interface counter error", though, I do see out discards being reported on these ports.

The error counter being returned by the device via SNMP will not always correlate with the counters in the interface stats. Depending on the device, these could be historic interface errors may not clear until the device resets.

Thanks rg, that helps. It's a Cisco bug in that IOS, and we are not going to upgrade to a non-vtp supporting image. For now, I am going to filter out those interfaces on our NPM by using the custom field "SLA" that I already have on all monitored interfaces. Majority of access-layer ports are all of SLA value "0", meaning unimportant. The new filter in my Top Ten Discards reported.. is now: Interfaces.SLA > 1

This brings the important interfaces into our view, and eliminates the noise from Cisco 3750Gs running 12.2.58 SE2.

Thanks for the help. I guess we're either going to have to live with it until we can schedule a maintenance window and do a reset, or upgrade the IOS.
