Orion and Sql 2005 * help needed *

Just installed a new SQL 2005 server with default setting, and I am having problem connecting to it from a new installation of orion...
can someone here write a simple walkthough of what need to be done to connect orion to sql 2005 ?

When trying to connect to sql server via the configuration wizard, I am getting an error that sql server can only be access via management studio. How do you solve this issue?

The current version of Orion NPM doesn't support SQL 2005 according to their customer support.

install the SQL 2005 client tools on the orion server

I found the SQL install not to be too bad ... especially since instances were a lot easier to understand.

Outside of that, there are some problems with SQL 2005. I found that my syslog server and beta alert engine would not automatically start. I use SQL 2000 in production and it works very well.

I have the SQL portion of Orion running on a SQL 2005-64-bit cluster fine. The key is installing SQL 2005 tools on the Orion box.

sql 2005 works fine. if you have any problems, use sql 2000 compatability mode.

Problems connecting to a SQL2005 server from Orion are typically caused by one of the following:

1. Older versions of Orion are not compatible with SQL2005. Be sure that you're using Orion Version 7.8.5 or later.

2. If you're still having trouble connecting, try manually registering the SQLDMO9.dll from within the \\Program Files\SolarWinds\Common\SQLDMO9\ folder with REGSVR32.exe

3. Last but not least, the security model for SQL2005 is much tighter than in SQL2000. If you're having a permissions issue and you don't have a DBA available, try setting the SQL process to run as the Local System account and then restart the SQL service and try again.

For those of you running SQL2k5, is the issue with the DB getting locked during nightly maintenance now resolved?
This is pertaining to the gap in polling every morning (2:15 - 3:15AM in my case).

I was not able to get the auto-start to work properly for my SysLog server. I was only using SQL 2005 in a development environment. Since I use 2000 in production, I haven't had any problems. Once v8 comes out, I'll try tackling it again.
